Pedro Brandão wins the prize for the best poster in the Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry Section for a poster entitled: “Isatin as a Central “Puzzle Piece” for Multicomponent Reactions (MCRs)”, P20 at the International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis (ISySyCat21), 31 August to 3 September 2021.

The past two weeks were very eventful with two accepted papers; one in Synthetic Communications (finally, on Pedro Barrulas’s compounds) and the other in ACS Medicinal Chemistry letters (on Pedro Brandão’s work). Congratulations to all involved.

It was great to file our European patent application for our novel organic semiconductors; Novel Pentacyclic Diamides with Optoelectronic Applications, Methods to Produce them and uses thereof, N/Ref: PPP 2020/19883. This is an invention developed in collaboration with João Paulo Ramalho from the Chemistry Dept. University of Evora and Luís Branco’s team from NOVA-id-FCT. We hope that this will lead to some real-life applications, watch this space…..

Pedro Brandão from our group was awarded the prize for the best poster in Organic Chemistry by the Portuguese Chemical Society at the 13th National Meeting on Organic Chemistry that took place at the University of Aveiro. The title of the communication  was: Engaging isatins in multicomponent reactions – Ugi adducts with promising biological activity.

He will work on a novel asymmetric route to the Alzheimer’s disease drug, Rivastigmine. This is part of our collaborative project Cooperação Científica e Tecnológica FCT/ITALIA CNR -2015/2016.
